Like many of you, I was saddened this week to hear that R.E.M. decided to the time was right to call it quits. The band formed the same year I was born, and I’ve lived with them from a very young age. While I’m not quite sure what to do now that I’ll never hear a new song by the band, I’m happy to revel in the thirty years of music they’ve given us, most of which were good. So, here they are. My ten favorite (therefore best) R.E.M. songs.
10. “E-Bow The Letter”
9. “It’s The End Of The World As We Know It”
8. “Sidewinder”
7. “Losing My Religion”
6. “Man On The Moon”
5. “don’t go back (to rockville)”
4. “Stand”
3. “Pretty Persuasion”
2. “The One I Love”
1. “Country Feedback”
Strange Currencies!
I was thinking about What’s The Frequency, Kenneth? but I couldn’t justify putting it above anything I had on there. So many great songs to choose from. I could have just said, Automatic For The People in it’s entirety and it would have been tough to argue against me.
