I haven’t had much time to do anything this week, but tonight I will be leading a round table discussion with members of the Chicago Roots Collective. I have four bands lined up for the talk, so I’d like to highlight them all here. They are all playing sets tonight at Elbo Room, so if you like what you hear please come down. Entry is only ten bucks for tonight or fifteen for both tonight and tomorrow night. It is 21 and up only.

The Future Laureates have a cool sound. I keep missing parts of their shows, but I think in total I’ve probably caught at least one whole set:
Glendenning is a interesting group. Reading through their musical influences you’d think, “How the hell does that come together?” But it does, and it sounds like this:
Mike Mangione and The Union are a bluesy, soulful group with some great guitar licks and quality songs. I haven’t seen the band live, but this video from Lincoln Hall tells me pretty much everything I need to know:
