The Oarsman Play Betamaxx TONIGHT

I wouldn’t be shocked if you haven’t heard of The Oarsman yet. I also won’t be surprised when you fall in love with Marcus Maloney’s solo project and wish to hear his voice only for the next few days. He’s headed off to record a Daytrotter session soon, and tonight he’s playing an intimate in-studio show at Ethnomusikology, which you can attend for $10. It’s also BYOB-so while I’m at Metro shelling out $8 for a drink, you can have a nice chuckle as you sip the wine you brought from home.

If you need a comparison for Maloney’s music, imagine if Kristian Matsson moved to the American south and picked up a slight accent. Don’t take my word for it, though. Check out this track from The Oarsman’s upcoming LP, Easel.

Also playing tonight at Betamaxx is Stephen Mulcahy, Marko Casso, and Jonny Mendez. That’s only $2.50 per set-a steal at twice the price! Doors at 6, show at 7. It’s a bit of a jaunt to get up to 4437 N Troy, just north of Montrose at Kedzie, but I think it will be worth your efforts.
