After one of the great disappointments of the year was finally released, praised, and put to bed last Tuesday, I needed something to restore my faith in hip-hop. The new J Cole record is good, but falls well short of greatness. So today when Drake announced that his new album would drop September 17th, it was like a lighthouse guiding a turnt around ship back to the safe seas.
The release date coincides with Drake’s just-announced tour, a practice that has become pretty commonplace these days. Leaking out the new release date wasn’t really what got me excited though. He also posted 4 songs on his brand new site, one of which is supposedly from Nothing Was The Same.
2011’s Take Care found Drizzy in some pretty dark places, and while I liked the record I thought it needed a little more sunshine to break up the gloominess. “The Motion” strikes a good balance that highlights all of the Toronto rappers best qualities.
Nothing Was The Same will be released September 17th. Drake’s “Would You Like A Tour” kicks off September 25th and features opening sets from Future and Miguel. Check dates and ticket availability here.
