After the James Joyce-like recap of the Way Over Yonder Fest yesterday, I’m taking it easy and just hitting you with a couple cool things out this week. I’m not going to get into it too much and just let the music speak for itself.
Our old friend Patrick from The Poison Control Center has a new project called Gloom Balloon-it’s just him and Chris Ford (Christopher The Conquered). The album doesn’t come out until December, but Spin just premiered the first single, “She Was The One That Got Away.” One of the perks of being friends with Patrick is that I’ve already heard the whole record and I’ll review it in full later this week. I’m not exaggerating when I say it could be the best thing you’ll hear all year. Check out the single, and then you can pre-order the album here.
Also out this week is an exclusive Spotify stream of Fort Frances’s new 7″ release featuring the songs “Plastic Hearts” and “Habits.” I heard “Habits” live a couple times, and it’s one of my favorite Fort Frances songs. “Plastic Hearts” is a bit more uptempo, which is a nice change of pace-more in line with “I Had Love” from their EP that came out earlier this year. The stream also includes remixes of both songs done by Jason Ryan of Wolfgang Jay. They’re both really solid, but again I prefer “Habits.”
If those aren’t enough for you, a couple great albums are also out this week, including the amazing new Ezra Furman record Day Of The Dog and Of Montreal’s Lousy With Sylvianbriar.
