Dial In-“The Balloonist”

I love checking out talented musicians, especially when they’re making music right here in Chicago. Shane Wirkes and Daniel Modica have been together as a duo for a while now (a single was released almost exactly one year ago) and today they’re releasing their first EP as Dial In called Lost Frames. They were kind enough to ask me to debut this track, and after listening myself I was more than happy to oblige.

I like they way the song feels like it was written with two conflicting ideas in mind that end up melding together smoothly. There is a bit of an 80’s feel early on, like half Duran Duran’s “Hungry Like The Wolf,” half “Lady In Red” by Chris De Burgh. The slow piano stays steady as you hear fits and starts of electronica in the background. Eventually they meet and dance a bit before becoming one.

Dial In will be playing a release show for the EP at Mayne Stage along with Bellum Boca and Tyler Etters on November 20th. Get tickets for the show here.
