Annalibera-“Black Cat White Cat” (Video)

If you’ve paid any attention to the music coming out of central Iowa over the past few years, you know it’s a hotbed of talent. Some of my favorite albums have come from the area, including my current favorite of 2015-Gloom Balloon’s The Songs That Couldn’t Swim. I’ve seen raves from many Iowans raving about Annalibera, and a couple weeks ago the first music video was released. “Black Cat White Cat” is the first single off Nevermind I Love You, due out March 24th on Sump Pump Records.

Anna Gebhardt blends the ethereal, haunting music of Mazzy Starr and Kate Bush without entirely copying them. Rather, she uses their foundation as a foothold to build up her own style. The vocals on this song, especially, take cues from Bush.

Annalibera will be playing next Monday, March 16th, at Schubas with Terriers (Chicago) and Greatest Lakes (Milwaukee). Rsvp to the event here, and grab tickets here.
