I’d never seen Benjamin Booker before tonight, but holy cow did he deliver on the promise of his debut album from last year. He ripped through the hits “Wicked Waters” and “Violent Shiver,” but he shined brightest on the deeper cuts that received extra embelishments and longer intros and outros.
I was very impressed with his band, especially the drummer. He was able to not only keep up with the skilled guitarist, he enhanced every track. His bass player kept the energy level up song after song, while Booker punished his guitar.
At right around forty minutes, the set was a little too short for me. I could’ve stayed with him at least another hour, but I’m sure that kind of frenetic play is exhausting.
Here’s a little video clip.
