Last night I had the opportunity to see Mitski for the second time this year. I saw her perform at Pitchfork over the summer, and she delivered one of the best sets of the fest. This time she was in town for Red Bull Sound Select’s 30 Days In Chicago, which is a series of shows at a bunch of different venues featuring everyone from Migos and Lil Yachty to Parquet Courts and Whitney. Most of the shows are already sold out, but click here for details on all the upcoming events.
Usually I prefer intimate club shows to outdoor festival sets, but I think I liked the Pitchfork performance a little better. She had a keyboard player with her then, and this show could’ve used that little bit of extra energy to really deliver the emotional impact of Mitski’s music.
Opener Miya Folick did a great job of warming up the crowd. Her music is a little more upbeat, with rhythms that can make you dance. Still, thematically the two artists wander down the same paths. She’s definitely worth checking out if you’re a Mitski fan.
