I’ve really enjoyed the evolution of music videos since the downfall of the original TRL. From the extravagance of big-budget Hype Williams and Dave Meyers videos to the DIY clips with badly synced sound, music videos have long been a part of the album cycle for bands. They’re also sometimes a good way to treat the fans with a quick one-off or cover track. 90 percent of the videos are bad, but I’m happy they keep making them.
And I’m very happy to say that “Basement” by More Giraffes is a well-made video recorded with the duo playing live in a living room. It has a great, intimate feel and gives the viewer a glimpse at how this stripped-down version comes together. Mark Hadley and Keeley Bumford seem to have a nice little recording set up and some friends to help out, and really that’s all you need to make a great music video.
The song is a fun pop number to keep your head bobbing and your toes tapping. The original version will appear on an EP due out later this year. For now, you can check out their website here.
