In an era when festivals are getting more and more niche, it’s nice to see one that fits in that category while still providing music for fans of many genres. Pitchfork has teamed with the Art Institute Of Chicago for Midwinter, a three-night festival of music and art taking place February 15-17. Tickets for the festival will be up for sale on Friday at 10am CST here.
There’s a wide array of music to be heard, from ambient to classical, folk to electronic, jazz to hip-hop. No stone goes unturned as Midwinter tries to melt away the cold weather blues. Highlights include Kamasi Washington, Perfume Genius, Mount Eerie, Oneohtrix Point Never, and Laurie Anderson. There will also be some well-known local performers like Joey Purp and Tortoise.
Be advised that a Base Ticket only gets you into the Art Institute and the gallery sets being played throughout the night. There are two main stages in Griffin Court and Rubloff Auditorium and side stages at Fullerton Hall and The Stock Exchange. Sets that take place in these areas will require a different ticket, all of which is explained on the schedule here.
