Portland-based rockers Strange Ranger came through Chicago last Thursday on their tour opening for Chastity Belt. I took some time ahead of the show to listen to their music and found a number of songs I really like. Seeing them live I got a different energy from them, and I preferred the live versions of everything I had heard. Especially the song “Leona,” with which they closed.
The group impressed with a fun, lively set that featured three of the five members on lead vocals for at least one song. Highlight of the night for me was when Tyler threw his beanie out into the crowd after receiving some compliments about it shouted from the audience. He did request it back, however.
The band’s latest, Remembering The Rockets, came out over the summer. This fall tour is a nice reminder of that album’s strengths. If you haven’t heard it yet, find it here.
