The Streets-None Of Us Are Getting Out Of This Life Alive (with IDLES)

I went the better part of a decade without paying any attention to The Streets. I didn’t even hear Computers and Blue until a few years after it was released. In my mind, his moment in the sun had come and gone and I was on to something else. And then he put of “Your Wave God’s Wave God” on soundcloud under the moniker The Darker The Shadow The Brighter The Light, and I was once again intrigued.

Mike Skinner has been putting out new material pretty regularly since then. He collaborates with a bunch of great artists, including this latest single with IDLES. It’s also the title track from the newest album by The Streets, which came out last month. It finds Skinner continuing his idiosyncratic delivery while experimenting with different genres.

I’m not quite sure where The Streets fits into the music world in 2020. Skinner has always existed outside of the mainstream despite critical acclaim. For fans, None Of Us Are Getting Out Of This Life Alive could have a revitalizing power that may have been badly needed in this time of isolation. For others that are discovering The Streets for the first time with this album, they may find the complex soundscapes to be a gateway to UK garage and underground.

Skinner is providing a lot of great bundle options for the album, most of which involve signed items and some cool gear. You can find them all here.
