rickoLus-Four Track Love Song

If there’s one thing that the pandemic has done, for better or worse, it’s given us time to look back and get a little nostalgic for the bygone days of the 90’s. That’s probably why I instantly fell for this new track from rickoLus. “Four Track Love Song” is the latest single from his upcoming album, Bones. It’s a hazy look back at self-discovery and getting lost in your own hopes and dreams. Also he rhymes “Jeff Mangum” with “dumb” which I think is hilarious and great.

The video has a fun VHS tracking issue, which invokes even more nostalgia for those of us that grew up in the late eighties and early nineties.

I have to assume the opening line “Two tape decks and a mixer” is an allusion to Beck’s “Two turntables and a microphone.” rickoLus doesn’t sound much like Beck, but you can definitely feel an influence in the music. There’s always something going on in the background and repeat listens do reward the listener with little things you may miss the first time.

I’m excited to check out the rest of the album when it’s available (March 5th). You can hear his other music on Bandcamp.
