The Holiday Season is upon us, and I am here to offer up a gift to all of you: an exclusive first listen to Julian Daniell’s latest single, “Her Lullaby,” which will be officially released on Friday. It’s only been a couple of months since Julian put out his first EP, Only Words, and it sounds like he’s been hard at work since then. I saw him perform in August at the release show for that record, and it got me excited for what he would do next.

In all honesty, I like this song more than anything off of Only Words. I’ve listened to “Her Lullaby” maybe 10 times now, and there’s a timeless quality to it that just pulls me in every time. It’s warm and inviting, but from a distance. It makes me think of Cyndi Lauper and Jim Croce, which I know seems like an unlikely pair, and maybe I’m the only one that hears it, but that was my first thought.

I really enjoy the vocal of this track. The song is carried by the heartfelt emotion that drips off of every note that Daniell hits. He shows off his range here more than other songs he’s released, much to my delight. He floats above the orchestration effortlessly, which makes me believe an a capella version of this song would work just as well.
