I kind of assumed we had heard the last of the Yeah Yeah Yeahs after Karen O almost won an Oscar for “Moon Song” from the movie Her (and she would have, too, if it hadn’t been for that meddling Frozen). The band had released Mosquito the year before, but it wasn’t getting the kind of press they’d received for their first couple of albums. And then things got fairly quiet for the band-everyone working on other things, trying to have a life outside of the band. So, I was pleasantly surprised when they announced a new album. Cool It Down drops at the end of this month and I can’t wait to hear the whole thing.
I wanted to write about this music video for a different reason, though. I like the song and if it’s an omen of what’s to come on the album, then I’ll be very happy. But, I wanted to just give a shoutout to Chloe Chaidez, who plays the running banshee in the video’s closing minute.
You may know her from the band Kitten, as I do, and if so you know that this video captures her energy very well. It’s been a few years since I’ve seen Kitten live, but the few times I have, she has been off the charts charismatic. Seeing her here, covered in red and looking almost animated, it really got me hoping that they hit the road again (although probably without bassist Blu DeTiger, who’s making a name for herself as a solo artist).
The video is great. Yeah Yeah Yeahs are great. Kitten is great. Kittens are also great. Check out the video and go buy music from everyone I’ve mentioned here.
