Now that it’s all over, how was the festival? It was a lot of fun and we saw a ton of great bands over the three days we were there, that’s for sure. But some were definitely better than others, so here are my top 10 sets at Pitchfork 2014, followed by my bottom 3. (We haven’t had time to go through all the pictures … Continue reading Ranking Pitchfork 2014
I was a little afraid that Beck would feature his new album heavily in his headlining Pitchfork performance tonight. It’s a fantastic album, don’t get me wrong. Just not the kind of material made for a big fest (maybe Newport, but not Pitchfork). When he took the stage and the band exploded into “Devil’s Haircut” all those worries went out the window. It was hit … Continue reading Beck at Pitchfork 2014
Just a week after returning from Toronto to cover the new Urban Roots Festival we’re gearing up for one of the biggest fests in the world, Pitchfork. I’ve never been to this festival, but the people I’ve talked to that have all gave it good marks. With the polar vortex once again sharing that cold Canadian weather with us, there’s no reason we shouldn’t have a blast. There are a ton of great artists playing this year-probably the best overall lineup I’ve seen since I started paying attention. So, for the price of one ticket to see Justin Timberlake I got a three-day pass. No arguments here. All three days are packed with awesome bands to see. Here are the ones I’m most excited about.

I think at this point we’re all pretty much agreed on the genius found in all of Beck’s albums thus far. When Pitchfork did their poll a while back for the People’s List covering the best records of the last 15 years, Beck was the only artist who got two spots in my voting-Sea Change and Midnite Vultures (of the final 200 listed, Beck’s name … Continue reading Beck-Morning Phase
I’m on record as being all-in on whatever Of Montreal wants to try. If they want to put out a disco record, I’ll grab my boogie shoes. If Kevin Barnes wants to make a drone record that is literally just a 40-minute track of whirring guitar and bass, I’ve got my wallet out ready to hand over my money. At this point in their career, … Continue reading Of Montreal-Lousy With Sylvianbriar
