Shot-for-shot remakes aren’t a sure bet. Look no further than the abomination that is Gus Van Sant’s attempt at remaking Psycho. However, sometimes they can work and even improve upon the original. Case in point, Little Junior’s video for their cover of Carly Rae Jepsen’s “I Really Like You.” The original is a fun lark with Tom Hanks being adored by fans (is it a documentary? that man can do no wrong-well, maybe Chet Haze). Little Junior turn it into an intense fever dream with Annie Murphy of Schitt’s Creek in prosthetics and makeup as Hanks. Lead singer Rane Elliott-Armstrong plays CRJ.

It also features two of my favorite Canadian musicians, Peter Dreimanis and Leah Fay of July Talk, getting autographs from “Tom.”

Any profits from the video are being donated to Youth Line, a LGBTQ support group.
