Codex Tres Lingua, the third EP from Chicago’s Razorhouse, begins precariously planted in the industrial roots and pop dreams of the band’s mastermind Mark Panick. After 30 years in the game, Panick still finds ways to add wrinkles to the formula, and “Go” has the kind of singer/songwriter sensibility that we’ve learned over time is possible from hard rockers and post-punk screamers alike. As with anything in Panick’s long back catalogue, things don’t stay the same for very long. This EP branches off in a bunch of different directions over the course of 5 tracks.

The one thing that holds all these tracks together is the ominous foreboding that lingers over every track. “Walking With The Deadmen” has a hypnotic guitar riff that draws you in to the trippy world it creates. The track would make a nice companion to The Handsome Family Band’s “Far From Any Road” or as an episode-closer on Twin Peaks: The Return.

Razorhouse is playing a release show this Friday, February 23, at Martyr’s in Chicago. However, the EP was released digitally on February 6, so you can actually hear it right now on their Bandcamp page.
