Somehow it’s been over two years since I last wrote about Fort Frances. They’ve put out a few singles since then, and they’re only a few days away from their new record, Look What Tomorrow Brought Us, hitting the digital platforms. It’s been a long road for singer/songwriter David McMillin, and you can hear the maturing and changing perspective in the recent songs, but especially “A Billion Drums.”

Honestly, there isn’t a lot I can say about Fort Frances that I haven’t already said a million times. David is one of my favorite songwriters, locally or otherwise. We have a similar musical foundation, so his style meshes with the kind of stuff I like. More than that, he writes from a place of truth and hope that I always find inspiring.

This song is the closing track from Look What Tomorrow Brought Us, and “may your heart beat like a billion drums” is the very last line. It’s a beautiful sentiment delivered at a time when optimism is in short supply. McMillin provides the encouragement that we all need right now as we try to finish this year on a high note.

As always, I’m excited to hear what they have in store for us on the album. It’s been a while since I’ve seen them live, so I hope they put a few shows together to support the release.
